This
presentation is based on the poetry of the prominent Sufi saint, Hazrat Amir
Khusro from Itaawa in South Western Uttar Pradesh. Ali Maula is a hymn to the
benevolent Maula, the sartaaj Qualandar. Desert Symphony A musical interlude, featuring traditional musical instruments of the Manganiars. The instruments include Kamaayacha, Dholak, Khartaal, Morchang,Dhol, Matakaa, Sataara, Sindhi Sarangi, Surinda, Alagoza, Bhapang, Murali, Tandura, Jaltaal, and Harmonium. All the musical instruments are tuned to a single scale and played together. Some of the compositions played are very complicated and rare, set to time cycles of 7,14,10,6,12,16,and 18 beats,while others are traditional and popular melodies. Sampravaahi presentation of a traditional Maand song, "Kesariya Baalam", that describes the naayika (the protagonist of the song) eagerly awaiting the return of her beloved, and cleverly using a ploy, that of breaking her pearl necklace so that she gets a chance to welcome him by bowing before him in total love and surrender. The haunting and easy - paced Jaisalmeri Maand is sung in couplets or dohaas and is one of the most popularly known semi classical singing style from the land of Rajasthan. |
